proofreading and editing services

We edit your work entirely on screen, using track changes on Word so that you can see where changes have been made and comments added. This can then be reviewed by you and easily incorporated into your work in just a couple of clicks when you are happy with it. It is an efficient and accurate method of editing which saves you lots of time in putting together the final draft of your writing.

How will copyediting improve my work or project?

When we copyedit your work we will be checking that:

spelling, punctuation and grammar are correct

your text makes sense;

the writing suits your target audience;

headings are appropriate and consistent in style;

text is organised clearly (I can suggest changes with regard to layout and design of your work);

references, figures and tables that are cited have been included, and are in the right places;

information given is factually accurate;

there is consistency in general style, eg that all headings are in bold, place names in italics, etc;

copyright and libel laws have not been infringed;

any relevant 'house style' is followed.

How does proofreading work?

Proofreading is a follow-up stage to the copyediting process, where we will check that the necessary changes have been included, compare the latest text against the original, and do a final checking of page numbers, indexing etc. We will be making sure that:

the errors identified have now been corrected and the changes incorporated;
any new errors have not been introduced;
there are no other errors which may have been missed the first time round.

Which services will be appropriate for my needs?

That depends on you. We offer a range of services, and tailor them to suit what is most appropriate for you. Each person and each piece of writing is unique. We are very happy to talk through the different options with you to help you decide what kind of editing you would like done for your project. It's normally useful to send us a short sample or extract of your work which I will look at free of charge.

Who do you offer these services to?
